2013 Kitchen Remodeling Trends
It’s been a month since the start of the new year, but if kitchen remodeling is on your list of resolutions, you may be just starting to think about it now. If you’re getting ready to remodel, there are a few 2013 trends you may want to keep in mind for a trendy, up-to-date kitchen.
Kitchen remodeling trends for 2013 include:
Quartz Countertops
Granite countertops will always be popular, but quartz countertops are a hot trend right now. Quartz is not only available in a wide variety of colors and textures, but it’s also low-maintenance—which is something every homeowner can appreciate, even those who don’t cook fancy meals every night!
Compact & Blend-In Appliances
Appliances that blend in with the rest of the kitchen are “in.” Some appliances, for instance, can be made of the same wood as the cabinets. Compact and “tucked away” appliances—such as a mini fridge tucked away into an island—are also popular.
Neutral Colors
Bright colors in a kitchen can look great, but neutral color schemes are a hot trend for 2013. Neutral colors such as black, white, gray, brown, beige, etc. complement many kitchen styles. They are most likely here to stay—we can’t see this kitchen remodeling trend going anywhere anytime soon!
Crown Molding
Crown molding is a small architectural detail but it can make a difference in the overall appearance of your space. It can create the illusion of height, which is ideal for smaller kitchens. Crown molding can also add value to your home and give your kitchen an upscale, more sophisticated feel.
Glass Backsplashes
A backsplash is a convenient kitchen feature that not only adds visual interest to the room but can also protect the walls from water damage. Glass tile and single-sheet glass backsplashes are becoming more and more popular. Another great thing about glass backsplashes is that they are extremely easy to clean.
Wall Coverings
Another trend that is growing in popularity is wall coverings. If you don’t want to paint the walls but don’t want to leave them bare, you can try wall coverings. There are plenty of options, such as faux stone, wood wainscoting, etc.
Integration
Integrating cooking, eating, and socializing has become much more commonplace—2013 trends are moving away from separate dining rooms and kitchens. Great ways to go about this are open floor plans and large, two-tier kitchen islands with bar stools.
