Efficient Kitchen Design
There are several questions you can ask yourself to help you figure out exactly how your kitchen could be better, including:
- Does the counter arrangement suit me?
- Do I use my kitchen mainly for entertaining or just casual meals with the family?
- Do I have enough storage?
- Are preparing meals in my kitchen easy?
If you answered no to most of these questions, you may want a new efficient kitchen design!
Efficient Kitchen Counter Material & Layout
The counters are arguably one of the most important parts of the kitchen – they are used for many things, from storage to food preparation to eating. Are yours efficient enough?
Material: What is your countertop material? If you make a mess in the kitchen and it seems like everyone is in there at once – a friend, the kids, the dog running around – you may want a more foolproof counter material. Stainless steel and granite are viable options as they don’t scratch easily and don’t require a lot of maintenance. Stainless steel in particular is known for being one of the easiest types of counter material to clean – and it has superior stain resistance!
Arrangement: If you’re constantly running into your counter or feel the counter layout makes the room feel cluttered, you might need a new counter arrangement. Do you have work zones or the open work triangle? The cooking range, fridge and sink are the “tips of the triangle” and there is easy movement between all three points. If your kitchen layout doesn’t have work zones or the triangle and you have to walk several feet to get from the stove to the sink, we can design a more efficient kitchen layout.
How is Your Kitchen Mainly Used?
Is your kitchen a more casual spot or do you cook large meals and entertain guests and friends often? If it’s the latter, is your kitchen design suitable? Are you able to prepare the meal and socialize with your guests? If you can’t, we can design you a new kitchen with an open floor plan that combines the kitchen and dining room, allowing you to cook and entertain without a problem!
Efficient Kitchen Storage
If storage is your main problem (if you have cluttered countertops and your cabinets are filled to the point where pots are almost falling out onto the floor!), there are a countless number of ways to easily fix this! We can name hundreds, but for this post, we’ll narrow it down to a few popular kitchen storage ideas:
- Hanging pot rack
- Wall cabinets that extend to the ceiling
- Island counters with shelves for storage
- Roll-out units and Lazy Susan cabinets
- Open shelving over the counter
The list goes on and on, and not only will some of these ideas maximize space but they’ll make access to everyday items much easier!
Meal Preparation
A lot of the time, how easy it is to cook a meal in your kitchen depends on the things we’ve already mentioned (like counter layout and storage/access), but there are other factors at play as well. For example, is your kitchen sink efficient enough? If you need a bigger and deeper sink, we can help.
