Our Favorite 2016 Kitchen Design Trends for Summer

Posted on: May 10, 2016

At Jack Rosen, our team is dedicated to keeping our patrons in Olney up to date with all of the latest kitchen design trends. So what is in store for custom kitchen design this summer? Well, some old ideas have certainly resurfaced, as they tend to do; but there are some cool and exciting new approaches you might consider for your home as well.

A Quick Note on Trends

We’ve made this point in the past, but we would like to reiterate for clarity. Trends are transient; here and gone again just as quickly. As such, our team doesn’t look to trends for definitive must have designs or remodel styles. What we do look to them for is inspiration.

The world of design is flush with ideas. Colors, materials, styles, nearly anything you could even consider. Both our team, and you as a homeowner, can utilize this. Drawing from a multitude of concepts helps us refine your dream kitchen, creating something truly unique and gorgeous. So have a glance at our summer 2016 trends, and reach out to our custom design team if an idea comes to mind!

Summer Kitchen Design Trends

Kitchen design trends seem to be recycling a lot this year, borrowing bits and pieces from previous seasons and years (in a few cases, even decades). But there are a few really intriguing methods and styles floating around. Here are just a few:

  • Black-heavy design. The traditional black/white color scheme that is typical of “classic” kitchen design seems to be falling by the wayside recently. Not to say that a classic kitchen can’t be beautiful, as it certainly can. But many homeowners and design teams are opting for darker colors and black cabinets. Why? Primarily because unlike its color-opposite, black meshes well with almost anything. Rich wooden cabinetry, modern design, contemporary, even rustic styles play very well with black, leaving your kitchen looking clean, smart, and functional.
  • Technology-friendly styles. With smart homes becoming more and more common, and kitchen tech seeing a massive boom, many designs are moving to accommodate. This means additional storage space for hidden chargers, or custom-made cabinetry to fit and fill all of your new, cool devices.
  • Open-space. Whether your kitchen is massive or minute, open-style function has become key in kitchen design. This means open cabinetry, additional “flat” work spaces, and clutter-resistant design. As more and more homeowners move to a functional yet gorgeous “dream kitchen”, design teams are rushing to accommodate. We adore a challenge, and the age of technology is proving to be ripe with new opportunities.
