Integrated Kitchen Design

Posted on: July 18, 2013

Gone are the days of appliance-focused kitchen design. Using the refrigerator or cooking range as the focal point in a kitchen was the trend for years, but more recently, kitchen design has moved away from that. More and more homeowners are seeking integrated kitchen design—and for good reason!

Integrated kitchen design hides appliances or blends them in naturally with the rest of the room—it creates a clean, uncluttered look and can help modernize a space. If you’re interested in a luxury, high-end look for your new kitchen, you may want to consider integrated appliances.

In fact, according to kitchen design expert Mick De Giulio, “hidden or ‘integrated’ appliances are becoming a hallmark of the luxury kitchen.”

Integrated Appliances

Manufacturers make it possible to hide bigger appliances like refrigerators, microwaves, and more. With appliances like integrated refrigerators, seamless kitchen design is easy to achieve! But what about smaller appliances that can clutter your counter surfaces?

Enter the appliance garage.

What Is a Kitchen Appliance Garage?

Appliance garages are cabinets that are typically installed underneath wall cabinets or tucked in the corner of a cabinet in a space that would otherwise be unused. They are used to keep smaller appliances and other items off the countertops, freeing up more workspace. Appliance garages can have shutter or cabinetry door fronts and the doors can often be rolled up like a real garage door. Typical appliances stored in appliance garages include:

  • Toasters
  • Coffee makers
  • Blenders
  • Mixers
  • Waffle makers

This appliance garage rolls up and has shelving inside, able to store multiple items.

This cabinet appliance garage can store small appliances, and it blends in seamlessly with the rest of the surrounding cabinetry!

Most kitchen appliance garages have a nearby outlet, and many also have ample room for someone to use the appliance without having to move it around a lot. In short, they are designed for convenience.
