2014 Kitchen Design Trends
2013 is almost over—are you preparing a list of New Year’s resolutions? Is remodeling your kitchen near the top of the list? If so, we’ve got some 2014 kitchen remodeling trends for you so you can ensure your new space will be stylish and up-to-date!
That said, it’s nice to have a trendy kitchen, but be careful of going too trendy, especially if you’re planning on moving and selling your home in the next few years. Remember—timeless kitchen design will always be in, no matter the year. There are, however, some trends next year that you should consider for your new kitchen.
Kitchen Trends for 2014
Some big kitchen remodeling trends we and other professionals are expecting to see next year include:
- Glass-front cabinets: These types of cabinets work well in both traditional and more modern spaces. But professionals recommend using no more than one or two materials.
- Open shelving: Open shelving has become more significant in kitchens over the years and it’s no surprise. Open shelving, especially combined with glass-front cabinetry, can help open up a room and make it appear more spacious.
- Brass accents: Brass made a comeback at home design and remodeling conventions in 2013, and it will most likely be seen more next year. While brass is nothing new, the style has changed. Highly polished, bright brass hardware isn’t as popular anymore; rustic, dull and hammered brass is in. Brass hardware can be used for not just cabinetry pulls, knobs, and hinges but also light fixtures and faucets—particularly in rustic kitchens.
- Modernity: More and more homeowners are moving toward contemporary kitchens, and in 2014, modern kitchens are expected to be big. In fact, according to data compiled by Hanley Wood and Remodeling Magazine, 61 percent of remodelers surveyed expect to complete kitchen remodels next year, more than any other room in the house. And those remodels are expected to follow a new trend.
Also, although sustainability in kitchens is far from new, it may be much easier to achieve in 2014. Not only are manufacturers getting greener but home energy efficiency has become an expectation right from the get-go, rather than something to be considered later after the design is complete.
