Award-Winning Kitchen Designers
Jack Rosen Wins Two NKBA Awards
We have some exciting news – we recently won two NKBA (National Kitchen & Bath Association) awards. One was for a contemporary kitchen design in Potomac, Maryland, and the other one was for a traditional kitchen in Annapolis, Maryland.
Award-Winning Kitchen Designs: The Details
We’ll tell you a little more about the two kitchen designs and what our team did.
Contemporary Kitchen Design – Potomac
The client had several requests:
- Change the traditional appearance of the kitchen to an updated contemporary look
- Include a large island that offers an abundance of countertop space
- Clear the clutter – keep all the small appliances out of sight
- Use green products
Our award-winning kitchen designers made drastic changes:
- Removal of the drywall soffit and the heavy house crown moldings. In its place, full-height cabinetry extended to the 9-inch high ceiling. The choice of a flat-panel veneer cabinet style also provided the sleek lines the client desired. The large island offers ample room for the cooktop, under-counter microwave and comfortable seating.
- Clearing of the clutter. In order to clear the clutter, the refrigerator and freezer were discreetly placed on the far right side of the “tall wall.” To the left of the ovens, a special 36-inch wide double-door tall cabinet was used. This cabinet has special hinges that allow the doors to pull slightly straight out and then easily slide over to the respective sides. The cabinet interior is equipped with countertop space. The interior also includes a drawer, roll-out shelves under the counter and adjustable shelves above. This coffee station area also houses the small appliances. They are all out of sight when the doors are closed.
- Incorporation of green products. To answer the client’s request for green products, the cabinet fronts were made from “engineered” wood veneers. This is a process that utilizes wood fiber that is manipulated through computer design to create a stunning natural appearance.
Traditional Kitchen Design – Annapolis
The client wanted:
- A stylish, elegant kitchen for a family of five that entertains frequently
- Enough space for people to move around comfortably
- Table seating (for six) and bar seating (for four)
- Maximized storage and countertops
- Appliances not interfering with each other, so that multiple people can work in the kitchen without bumping into each other
Solutions and improvements in our award-winning design included:
- Relocating the cooktop from the island to against the wall. While improving the quality of ventilation, it also serves as a focal point that didn’t exist before.
- Better integrating of the family room and the kitchen, by removing the knee wall and the post in between.
- Removing the walk-in pantry and opening up the room. Incorporating a separate broom closet as well as a wide built-in pantry with roll-out shelves is more organized and efficient.
- Adding a built-in bench for table seating, allowing the integration of a peninsula that houses a prep sink a small dishwasher and comfortable bar seating.
