LEDs: Light Your Kitchen Efficiently
Although lighting doesn’t stand out the way cabinetry and countertops do in the kitchen, it’s an important aspect of the overall design. The right lighting can improve both functionality and aesthetics—and given that the kitchen is one of the most used and most seen rooms in your home, you don’t want to skimp on the lighting!
If you’re planning for a kitchen redesign and your current space has fluorescent lighting or incandescent bulbs, you should consider LED lights, or LEDs (light-emitting diodes). LEDs are energy-efficient and can usually be distinguished by how they feel. When you touch an LED, it doesn’t feel hot and you won’t burn yourself the way you would touching another light.
LED Lighting Applications
LED lighting can be installed on the ceiling, under cabinetry, on top of cabinetry, and even inside cabinetry. We can incorporate puck, strip, and/or ribbon LED lights in your kitchen design. Puck lights, which are small and round and lie flat on a surface, are popular, especially for under-cabinet LED lighting.
Ways to Use LED Lighting in the Kitchen
There are a few different ways you can use LEDs in your kitchen. Puck lights on the ceiling are common in kitchens, but under-cabinet lighting has gained a lot of popularity. Most often, puck or ribbon LED lighting is installed under cabinetry. Under-cabinet LED lighting is ideal for illuminating dim, hard-to-reach places or brightening a particular work surface. It can also add warm ambiance to your kitchen.
Over-cabinet lighting is another option. This type of lighting can give the illusion of height and help your kitchen seem more spacious. Sometimes ribbon lighting is even installed inside cabinets!
